Handmade Book
Rice and Mountains is a memory of my visits to Nepal over 10 years. I made it in response to a call for entries by the Printmakers Council for an exhibition 'Life/Size' . I contrasted the smallness of a single Rice grain with the massiveness of the Annapurna range of mountains. It has four sections of 4 pages each. Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn. I used Handmade Nepalese paper for the book and its specially made box. The book contains 12 wood engravings 5 drawings and 2 linocuts. Each of the pages has a single rice grain in the corner. Included in the box is the story of the book with information about the place, people and life in the Nepalese village Ghandruk, the mountains and how the rice is grown in terraces on the steep hillsides
